Higher Primary Section (Age 11-13) – Std. 6 to 8
Std. 6 learners…
Std. 6 are laden with new learning opportunities, and students
continue to grow and flourish on their individual academic,
extra-curricular and pastoral pathways. With guidance and encouragement
from their class teachers and subject specialists, they are motivated to
extend their academic, sporting and cultural abilities.
Our students respond willingly and well to the School’s expectations of self-discipline, courtesy and diligence, and they represent their school with pride.
- Continue to enjoy stimulating academic programmes that allow for differentiation according to individual needs.
- Meet regularly with a mentor teacher, either one-to-one or in a supportive small group, to plan and review specific, time-bound learning goals and the steps required to achieve them.
- Share their learning goals and strategies with their families, who are an integral part of the school-wide Personal Achievement Targets (PATs) process.
- Are all appointed to positions of responsibility and learn how
to provide leadership to younger (and older) students in a way that
best utilises their own unique skills and talents.
- Utilise their own IT devices to develop their digital
literalize, and receive dedicated IT instruction to ensure that they
are safe and effective users of digital technology.
- Play a key role in Std. 5 in the house system by serving as
House Captains and working with their teachers and peers to create
an inclusive House spirit and a healthy level of Inter-House
rivalry.
Std. 7 & 8 learners…
In Std. 7 & 8, students are introduced to primary school higher academic programmes. They receive ongoing personalized monitoring and support, and have the advantage of studying in small classes where every student is well known, valued as an individual, and able to find his or her own niche. Opportunities abound for classroom participation and for involvement in extra-curricular pursuits. Students are encouraged to become well-rounded, enthusiastic and confident young people.
- Receive an excellent standard of tuition from specialist teachers in English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Social Sciences, The Arts, Languages Other Than English, Health and Physical Education, and Technology.
- Are stimulated by provocations about literature, languages and the arts and explorations of the history and mysteries of the world around them.
- Facilitate inquiring minds through hands-on involvement in scientific and mathematical investigations.
- They start using their own laptop devices, and are able to design, create and share their material with confidence using a variety of learning and communication media.
- Enjoy low teacher-pupil ratios and the myriad benefits of being known, seen, heard, cared about and understood by teachers who are particularly skillful at managing their students’ academic and pastoral needs at this age.
- Are able to learn in ways that recognise their individual learning styles, strengths and abilities.
- Work independently and collaborative to research significant topics, concepts and problems, and to determine logical and creative solutions.
- Learn to use met a cognitive thinking skills, scaffolds and strategies to plan and summa rise their information and ideas in class work, homework, tests and exams.
- Continue to stand out for their respective contributions to school leadership, sports teams and cultural events, the arts (through band, music lessons, the school musical, drama and debating), extracurricular activities (ECAs), and a range of other teacher-led and student-led initiatives.
- Develop the values and attitudes, sense of belonging and connectedness that contribute to long-term happiness and success.
